Congressional Franchise Caucus Kickoff Event

On Tuesday, January 24, IFA joined Illinois Congressman Rodney Davis, co-chair of the bipartisan Congressional Franchise Caucus for a kickoff event in the House Administration Hearing room of Longworth House Office Building. The event was generously catered by IFA Members, Dunkin’ Donuts and Chick-Fil-A.

Just 10 days before the anticipated implementation date, a federal judge in Texas halted the U.S. Department of Labor’s new federal overtime rule, which would have doubled the Fair Labor Standards Act’s salary threshold for exemption from overtime pay.

Puzder: Trump Election Represents 'Better Day' for Economy

The election of Donald Trump and the Republican Party gaining majorities in the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate represents “a new day and a new attitude” for efforts to reverse government regulations that hurt businesses, according to Andrew Puzder. One of Trump’s key supporters and economic advisors during the campaign, Puzder spoke Nov. 15 during the Restaurant Finance & Development Conference in Las Vegas.

IFA Submits Comments on EEOC Joint Employer Standard

On Tuesday, July 5th, 2016, IFA submitted its comments on the EEOC’s Proposed Enforcement Guidance on National Origin Discrimination. The purpose of the Proposed Guidance, according to the EEOC, is to “serve as a reference for Commission staff conducting outreach, for EEOC lawyers bringing litigation, for employers, employees, and practitioners seeking detailed information about the EEOC’s position on national origin discrimination and for employers seeking ‘promising practices.’”

Main Street in Jeopardy: Stakeholders Agree Joint Employer Is Major Issue

On Tuesday, June 21, the International Franchise Association (IFA) and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce issued a report titled, “Main Street in Jeopardy”, that focused on the National Labor Relations Board’s (NLRB) expanding joint employer standard and its threat to small businesses. A discussion panel was held in addition to the report on how it is affecting the small business community and what efforts are being provided to tackle these issues.
